Basic Setup

Configure your Launchpad and software for reliable lightshow performance.

Before diving into complex projects, make sure your setup is stable.

Hardware

  • Connect your Launchpad directly to your computer if possible.
  • If you need a hub, use a powered USB hub to avoid power issues.
  • Use a good-quality USB cable and avoid moving the device during play.

Drivers & Firmware

  • Install any required drivers for your Launchpad model from the official Novation website.
  • Update the firmware to the latest version using Novation’s tools.

DAW / App Configuration

For Ableton Live:

  • Enable your Launchpad in Preferences → Link/MIDI.
  • Set the appropriate Control Surface, Input, and Output for your model.
  • Make sure Track and Remote are enabled on the relevant MIDI ports.

For UniPad / Unitor / others:

  • Follow the app’s specific setup instructions.
  • Confirm that the correct Launchpad model and mode are selected.

Latency & Performance

  • Lower your audio buffer size until you notice crackles, then back off slightly.
  • Close unnecessary background apps.
  • If using many visual plugins or effects, test stability before recording or streaming.

Quality-of-Life Tips

  • Save a default project template with your Launchpad already configured.
  • Keep backups of your project files in cloud storage or version control.
  • Label your projects clearly by difficulty and Launchpad model.
