Recommended Models

Suggested Launchpad models for different skill levels and use cases.

We recommend three Launchpad/MIDI Controller models: the Launchpad Pro MK2 (often referred to as "OG Pro"), the Launchpad X and the Mystrix by 203 Electronics.

Launchpad Pro MK2 (OG Pro)

  • Easy to customize (spraypaint, skins, etc.)
  • Durable and repairable (replacement parts can be bought directly from Novation)

Cons:

  • Very chunky and heavy, less portable
  • USB port is prone to breaking, leading to connectivity issues
  • Discontinued. Finding one in adequate condition may be difficult

Launchpad X

Pros:

  • More portable and lightweight
  • Larger and softer pads, usually feels nicer to play on

Mystrix by 203 Electronics

Pros:

  • Compact and portable design

  • Great for starters

Cons:

  • Pads might not feel as good as Novation's Launchpads

Alternative Models

Launchpad Mini MK3

Pros:

  • Very portable, lightweight, and small
  • Great for starters who would like to test the waters without spending too much

Cons:

  • Smaller size may be uncomfortable to play on
  • Upgrading to a better model (Pro MK2, X, Mystrix) for dual launchpad performances may not fare well due to size differences
